Montalcino in a Day Tour

zmontalcinoinadayMontalcino is known for its signature Brunello di Montalcino and for its breathtaking views. It is a remote area where there are only vineyards for as far as the eye can see. Montalcino is the ultimate wine town and there you can sample wines from over 100 local producers! DOC and DOCG wine is produced here as well as top shelf Super Tuscans that fall into the Toscana IGT designation. A day in Montalcino is sure to please not only wine lovers! We will visit a premiere winery, tour a castle, where wine and Balsamic style vinegars are made. Lunch is at a fantastic upscale restaurant that is the perfect mix of great food, wine and atmosphere! A stop in the town of Montalcino is in order and you can choose to roam its charming shops or local enotecas. The next stop is a 1,000 abbey whose architecture is French Gothic. It dates to the time of Charlemagne and is still an active ecclesiastical community. If time allows, Pienza is an additional stop. On the way we will pass by some of Tuscany’s most glorious landscape. Many have been immortalized in film and some areas are protected Unesco World Heritage sites! Pienza is no less charming and filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli has used her as a stand in for Verona in his Romeo and Juliet. Today the town is visited not only for her ideal Renaissance architecture, but also for her cheese! Pecorino di Pienza is Tuscany’s finest cheese and is available in a plethora of options. Wrapped with chestnut leaves or ash, aged in caves or fresh, with a tomato rind wash or with decadent truffles. All are delicious!
