Carlotta Scotti Pignato, an Italian-American, was born in Florence where she spent her early childhood. She is a fluent speaker in both languages and moves easily between the two cultures. Her love of all things Italian led her to a degree in Art History and to study wine with the internationally recognized Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET). She has returned to her family’s roots to share her knowledge of Tuscany and its culture, food, wine and art through Tuscan Vineyard Tours.

Day 1 Florence
Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Admire the work of artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci and other masters in the Uffizi Gallery. See the David and understand the genius of Michelangelo. Lunch at Florence’s amazing food hall. Climb up Brunelleschi’s innovative Duomo. Taste arguably the world’s greatest gelato and shop for gold on the Ponte Vecchio. We’ll hit the markets too for souvenirs. On the dinner menu is Porchetta, the most delicious pork roast you’ve ever had!
Day 2 Volterra
Volterra is a Medieval hill town with ancient Etruscan roots and Roman era amphitheater. The scenery is spectacular and the town is unchanged by time. You will see firsthand Etruscan and Roman artifacts in a museum collection. Then enjoy lunch on your own and shop for handmade crafts made from local alabaster or olive wood.
The Manhattan of the Renaissance. Originally 72 looming towers were built, now 14 remain standing. Home to white Vernaccia DOCG wine, the first DOC designated white wine region in Italy. A multitude of shops with everything from hand painted ceramics to gourmet specialties such as cantuccini and truffles. Group dinner and a treat from our favorite gelateria for dessert!
Day 3 Bolgheri
Originators of the Super Tuscan Wines. Known as the Bordeaux of Italy due to its proximity to the sea, rocky soil and use of international varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Visit a renown Bolgheri estate in this Italian world class wine-making regions. Lunch at an enoteca which serves top selections by the glass and delicious food. Olive oil tasting at a family farm and winery.
Day 4 Montalcino
Enjoy the view of miles of vineyards, sample the renown Brunello di Montalcino of one of Italy’s largest estates. Linger over an exquisite lunch, take in the breathtakingly beautiful scenery from the city’s fortress. Winery tour and tasting of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino from an award winning vineyard.
Home to Pope Pius II who built a cathedral in this town of ideal Renaissance architecture. Spectacular views, delicious Pecorino cheese and other delicacies are to be savored here. So picturesque that scenes from the films Romeo and Juliet and The English Patient were filmed in the area.
Day 5 Suvereto
Learn to make espresso or cappuccino and enjoy a delicious morning pastry from the premiere cafe’ of the area. Explore the Medieval village of Suvereto.
Marvel at the architecture of a large scale winery in the up and coming region of Suvereto and contrast the experience with the bio-dynamic winery of a single owner/producer. Dine in an out of the way country restaurant known for its homemade pastas and sauces as well as the classic T-Bone, Bistecca alla Fiorentina.
Day 6 Siena
Explore the Medieval and Renaissance splendor of Siena. Visit the cathedral and chapel of Siena’s patron saint, St. Catherine. Walk the city’s Piazza del Campo where each neighborhood or contrada competes in the Palio horse race and climb the Torre del Mangia to burn off the day’s lunch! Reward yourself with gelato or a glass of champagne at one of our favorite stops. Dinner with group in a restaurant with a magnificent city view.
See Italian Gothic architecture at the Abbey of San Galgano, a medieval saint who perhaps inspired the legend of King Arthur and Excalibur!
Day 7 Pisa
Drive to Pisa and drop off at airport for morning flights. Continue to “Campo dei Miracoli” and see Leaning Tower, Cathedral and Baptistry. Second drop off at Galileo Galilei Airport.*
